The Welsh 3000s
18 August - 19 AugustFree
Join PMC for its monthly cottage meet in the heart of Snowdonia to tackle the Welsh 3000s!
We’ll walk all 15 mountain summits over 3000 ft in Wales, with a total walking length of around 24 miles.
Depending on who signs up, we can take on the challenge of completing all within 24 hrs – without any transport – alternatively we could split the route over two days and take it more leisurely.
Here’s some information from www.welsh3000s.co.uk:
You don’t need to be a fell runner. Many people walk this. However, it’s extremely tough, and is a big step up from something like the “Three Peaks Challenge”. It’s only suitable for very fit and experienced mountain walkers.
It’s very rocky, and both uphill and downhill sections are demanding. Navigation can also be problematic without previous knowledge of this area of Snowdonia. Additionally, one mountain, Crib Goch, is very exposed.
This challenge is often underestimated – you need to be very fit to walk it in 24 hours. Times below 12 hours (first peak to final peak) are sometimes achieved by exceptionally fit walkers. For fellrunners, the record stands at an unbelievable 4 hours 20 minutes, or three times in 22 hours 49 minutes!
Staying at the club’s cottage, we’ll travel together Friday evening and return Sunday. Normal cottage fees apply.
The trip is open to everyone, however it’s important you feel comfortable with the above. If you’re unsure, please contact the meet leader.
While the primary focus on this meet will be the Welsh 3000s, if you’d prefer to stay and climb/mountain bike etc, you’re more than welcome too.
